Our 4th of July weekend was pretty low key this year. We usually go to the St. Peter Parade on Sunday, but due to the rain, decided to skip it. Instead we bought some fireworks at a tent in Jordan & drove down to my brother's house in Nicollet to help his son, Austyn, celebrate his 5th birthday. We had lunch at his house, then went to Flandrau Park in New Ulm so the kids could go swimming. After dark, we let the kids play with sparklers & lit fireworks at my parents house. Unfortunately, Mikayla's first experience with sparklers wasn't great & I will probably be throwing the ones I have away unless someone wants them. Her first two sparklers burnt out without a problem & on the third one, a piece of the sparkler flew off & landed in Mikayla'a hair. We quickly got the ember out, but she lost about a dime size section of hair on top which is usually covered by other hair & cannot be seen unless you know where to look. Needless to say, I will be sure to buy the metal sparklers from now on & not wood ones.
